It was in the spring of 1972 that Jim and Judy Rice decided to open a print shop. There was a storefront available in downtown Benton Harbor and the rent was right. After finding a used platemaker and press the business opened on May 1, 1972. Judy ran it full time as Jim was employed full time. Jim moonlighted at night helping out doing quotations and bindery work.
The business prospered and soon outgrew the storefront. After searching for a new location, we moved, in 1973, to a little red house at Napier and Colfax in Fairplain. Because of the steady growth Jim went full time in 1976. Again business increased and new equipment and services necessitated finding a larger location. A suitable building became available on M-139 and after much soul searching we signed a large mortgage and moved to 2185 M-139 in March of 1979.
In September of 1988, after graduation from Michigan State University, Jeff Rice joined his parents in the business. His initial task was to secure additional business and he is now responsible for electronic pre-press, color copying, high speed copying and offset press production.
In 1992, daughter Jennifer also joined the company. She is responsible for customer service and order entry. In addition to the Rices we’re privileged to have an outstanding staff who operate our desktop publishing/typesetting equipment, high speed copying machines and offset press equipment.
